I believe the post to the right represents it being 73 miles from Huntingdon, though I could be wrong. Nice photo.

It's a lovely, unspoilt part of the country. As you probably know, the railway is vital to link the country towns to the city. This train service is an essential part of school-children's day as many use it to go to and from their school.

It's a shame the train doesn't run later into the evening, as the connections to Lincoln or London become difficult.

Incidentally - why should anyone want to go to Huntingdon? Could the sign be 73 Km from Peterborough -where it joins the East Coast main Line?

Aye, it is a quite nice place to live. You're right it's a shame the trains don't run later into the night, it would aso be good to have some early morning and evening trains to Peterborough opose to them Terminating at Sleaford. Hopefully next year when the new franchise is underway there will be some improvements, though I don't count on it.

As for the milepost the line was originally part of the GN GE joint line From Huntingdon to Doncaster via St Ives, March, Spalding, Sleaford, Lincoln and Gainsborough. If you have a look on old-maps.co.uk at the station is says Huntingdon 73 M.P. This is what gave me the hint it may be to Huntingdon rather than peterborough - though saying that they may have changed it, if not it is a little peice of history I guess.
